About
The Innkeepers
The innkeepers Karen Geriak and Adam Dworkin, along with
their children Isabella and Hannah Dworkin purchased the
property in December of 2005. The motel has now stayed in
the family for three generations. Karen's grandparents Harvey
and Hazel Turner were the first to purchase the motel back
in March of 1963 at that time it was known as the Lynn-Lee
Motel named after their son and daughter. Harvey and Hazel
owned the property until 1977 which at that time Steve and
Judy Geriak purchased the property and ran it for 28 years
until December of 2005.
Karen
was raised at the motel from the age of 10 until she went
off to college attending Hood College in Maryland her freshmen
year and later transferring to St. Michael's College in
Winooski Park, Vermont. She later lived in Stamford, CT
for several years as well as San Francisco, California and
Jackson, Wyoming.
Adam
grew up at the Christy Inn in Londonderry, VT until his
parents sold the business. He later moved to Dorset, VT
before attending the University of Vermont. After college
he lived in Maui, Hawaii for several years as well as Washington,
DC and New York, NY until returning back to Vermont.
Karen
and Adam owned the Flat Road Diner in Manchester for three
years before selling it and buying Maxwell's Flat Road Grill
the local pub in town. The only place that you can get delicious
homecooked food at a very reasonable price.
The
motel was purchased in 2005 and we have been working and
working on the property it has undergone an amazing transformation.
Most importantly we replaced all of the windows and insulated
the walls. As we were tearing out the exterior walls we
discovered that all of the insulation was about 12” off
the ground. Thus these improvements will help keep the rooms
warm in the winter and cooler in the summer. This summer
2009 we have been open but the most work has taken place
since early June. We decided to removed the old flat roof
and peak it as well as re-side the entire building. The
place looks amazing. I believe that the brunt of the work
should be done by mid-September 2009 we installed new carpeting
in all of the rooms downstairs.
In
the summer of 2004 while managing the property we worked
hard on the grounds. Over 2,500 perennials were planted
and numerous over grown shrubs were removed. July and August
the gardens are simply spectacular with all of the color.
It should be noted that the gardens from early May are constantly
changing and transforming. I planted a few perennials this
year 2009 but now I am focusing on picking out unusual flowers
and ones that I find to be truly beautiful.
Your
Hosts, Karen Geriak & Adam Dworkin
